Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a cult classic. Whoever has watched it, has not only watched it more than 5 times, but also knows each line by heart. The songs have become staples on our playlists and every hook step is embedded in our muscle memory. But it’s neither the songs nor Naina-Bunny’s love story that make us love Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Here are the 7 real reasons why we love YJHD:

1. Bunny

There is not one person who has seen Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and NOT had a crush (a massive one) on Bunny. How can one not love his optimistic outlook, happy go lucky personality, spunk, strange flirting and emotional unavailability and INSANELY good looks. When he cried while hurriedly leaving Aditi’s wedding with a broken heart, the nation cried with him. Bunny was undoubtedly the man of our dreams, and we loved him for it.

2. Taran

The second most desirable man in YJHD was most certainly Taran. He was the manifestation of pure wholesomeness. He was the entire package, let’s be honest. He was sweet, his liver wasn’t damaged, he was super loaded (hey, it’s always a plus!) and he was NOT a jealous husband, which is very commendable considering Bunny and Avi were the definition of hot. He jumped in a pool in a really expensive suit to find his engagement ring, if that isn’t proof of his golden heart, what is!?

3. Naina’s outfits

Whether it was the flowery dresses with matching cardigans, the wedding lehengas that gave us all body image issues, the vibrant Rajasthani dupattas or her homely polka dotted PJ’s, her outfits were ON POINT. They were the perfect manifestation of her shy but fearless nature. Her closet was absolute goals.

4. Wanderlust for Udaipur

Nothing romanticized Udaipur like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. It’s production team should probably charge commission for all the weddings that took place at Udaivilas after the movie was released. We all planned a trip to Udaipur to stay at that exact palace, then saw it’s price per night and trashed those plans overnight. YJHD is a travel reel for Udaipur and the locations, shots and overall feel it’s given is magical.

5. the smashing of the champagne glass fountain

This 4 second slow-motion shot of Bunny throwing a chair into a very expensive looking pyramid of champagne glasses was EVERYTHING. It was just so freaking cool! He broke glasses and became the life of the party, if we broke a glass we’d get a slap and a hefty bill.

6. the two versions of ‘kabira’

Can we please discuss how Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani had 2 different versions of Kabira that were 2 different MOODS. There was a sad one and a happy one. HOW! One version plays at every wedding and we dance to it, do shots on it and even use it for our Instagram stories. While the other one makes us weep like a baby and reminds us of all the times we’ve had our hearts broken. This musical sorcery is sheer genius.

7. bunny’s job

Who has the coolest job in the world? Bunny. Who travels to exotic locations for FREE? Bunny. Who has hooks up with gorgeous foreigners? Bunny. Who also gets paid a bomb for enjoying his wanderlust? Bunny. YJHD was a middle finger to all those stuck at a desk, working 9-5. Bunny’s job was the absolute dream, and while most of us were jealous of it, we also loved it (and maybe even sent an application to TLC…)

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a movie that has made a place in our hearts, and will stay there till the end of time. One can never get “sick and tired” of watching it, it is evergreen. Each time we watch it, we love it for a different reason. We can relate to Avi’s alcoholism, Naina’s shyness, Aditi’s one sided love and Bunny’s loneliness. The movie resonates with us on multiple levels, which makes it all the more meaningful.
