Psychological Thrillers That Will Mess With Your Mind!

Jump scares and yelling at the top of your voice when something unexpected happens in any horror film is one thing and messing up with your mind is another! This is exactly what psychological thrillers do. Though they are completely different from what a horror genre is, they end up terrifying us, snatching away our dreams, and keep us wondering for the longest!

Sometimes messing with our own minds seems like a different high. psychological thrillers do not need jumpscares or eerie music to scare you, the storyline is so haunting that it will take you on a mind trip (which is even scarier). So, here we list some of the best psychological thrillers to watch.

Warning:- Be ready to give your mind a messy trip!

1. The Silence Of The Lambs (IMDB Rating:- 8.6)

If you are a fan of ‘jump-out-at-you’ kind of horror films with the depth of a really messy psychological thriller, then you shouldn’t think twice before watching the silence of the lambs. Though the film was released in 1991, it will still give you chills down the spine as you watch it. It can be termed as a cult film. The film revolves around a young FBI agent who is in search of a serial killer and she ends up taking help from yet another prisoner who is termed as the cannibal –  Dr. Hannibal Lecter, with unexpectedly dire consequences. The role of the FBI agent is played by Jodie Foster and this masterpiece film was created by Jonathan Demme.

2.  Se7en (IMDB Rating:- 8.6)

A brutal story with slick gore effects and a haunting finale. A killer on the run, Seven revolves around a murderer who targets and kills people based on the seven deadly sins. Two detectives – one new to the city and the other about to retire – both on a mission to hunt down the serial killer. The film takes you on a roller coaster ride.

3. Shutter Island (IMDB Rating:- 8.2)

When we talk about films that clearly mess up with your mind, one cannot neglect Shutter Island. It doesn’t have any horror feels to it, but it keeps you wondering throughout. The truth is right in front of you all throughout the movie, but your brain just misses the part. U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) is tapped to investigate the disappearance of a murderer at Ashecliffe Hospital – an insane asylum located on an island. Ultimately, he has to fight his fears to get out of that island. This film will definitely keep you hooked.

4. The Sixth Sense (IMDB Rating:- 8.1)

When an 8-year-old boy says “ I See Dead People”, it will definitely scare you. The boy’s strange claims lead to the intervention of psychologist Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis). Through their meetings, Crowe learns a lot of things about himself and along the ride, the story gets twisted and more complicated! It will scare you at points where you least expect them and the end will leave you in splits and you will ponder over it for a day or two, for sure!

5. Get Out (IMDB Rating:- 7.7)

Chris (Daniel Kaluuya)and Rose(Allison Williams) go on a weekend trip to meet her family. Chris simply wanted to impress them, but things went horribly wrong. It is out and out a scary psychological thriller where you see some White American people hypnotizing the African American people. Do not forget that they even perform medical examinations on them. There is a constant mounting of paranoia and this film definitely deserves repeated viewings. The film will disturb you with its plot and you won’t realize when the happy scenarios turn into an event of horror!

6.  Midsommar (IMDB Rating:- 7.1)

Midsommar – a film that you will end up hating or talking about for days! We must warn you that it is a kind of film that will haunt your dreams (and, let’s be honest, waking hours), for days to come. The movie starts peacefully with a group of friends taking a trip to Sweden, but it turns into a horrible nightmare as you watch it. The film deals with mental health issues in a unique way and it also includes the ancient rituals of a pagan cult.

7. Don’t Breathe (IMDB Rating:- 7.1)

Don’t breathe is one beast of a movie. It is tight and relentlessly thrilling. It will make you feel claustrophobic and at each point, you will hear your own heartbeat fast. While the film progresses towards the end, tension rises, suspense turns into shock, creepiness becomes 100% and you will end up changing your perception of a blind man. After all, who thought a blind man could scare you for your life. Stephan Lang, donned the character of the blind perfectly, he does scare you with all his might.

8.  US (IMDB Rating:- 6.8)

Imagine one of your worst fears coming to reality? That’s exactly what happened to Adelaide (Lupita Nyong’o). A bunch of attackers, each resembling them, show up at her family’s beachfront house. The film gets creepier and scarier with each passing time. You will wonder at what’s happening at one point and other you will be sitting at the edge of the seat biting your nails nervously at the worst thought of what might occur next. The end is surely nothing like you ever imagined. So, if you are in a mood to watch something really scary and the one that messes up your sane mind, do watch Us.
