Bollywood films without music are like rains without chai and pakora. Music adds value and beauty to the film. At times, it is the music that was superior to the actual film.
So, today let us beat our Monday blues by looking at those songs that defined the films and made them memorable.
1. Delhi 6
Who doesn’t have the song Masakali and Rehna Tu on their playlist still? These songs bring back a lot of memories each time you listen to them Call it Mohit Chauhan and A R Rahman’s magic that these songs are still one of the best masterpieces that Bollywood has given to us. Though Delhi 6 movie wasn’t much appreciated, the soundtracks did make it to the limelight. Ohh Yes! Who can forget the song Genda Phool too? Haven’t we all grooved to the tunes once?
No doubt Imtiaz Ali created a benchmark with the film Tamasha. The story of Ved and Tara not only touched our hearts, but it also related to a lot of people. While people appreciated the film, it was the music that grabbed the maximum eyeballs. It won’t be wrong to say that without the songs this film would have been hollow. While Safarnama song by Lucky Ali awakened the traveler in us, Agar Tum Saath Ho by Arijit Singh and Alka Yagnik just made us want our loved ones to be near us. Matargashti, Tu Koi Aur Hai, and Heer Toh Badi Sad Hai worked their magic on people too.
Imtiaz Ali is definitely a magician, but what is more appreciable is the songs! Rockstar is one such movie that has songs that will connect to every cord in your heart. Tum Ho is every loving heart’s favorite, while Naadaan Parindey, Aur Ho, and Jo Bhi Main will make you believe in the magic of music. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the song Kun Faya Kun has healing powers. Whenever we feel sad or lost, Kun Faya Kun is the song we run to find shelter.
4. Laila Majnu
Everything falls in place with Laila Majnu’s songs. The film has music scored by classical musicians Niladri Kumar and Joi Barua, Irshad Kamil’s words can never disappoint us when it comes to music. Aahista is the best of the lot, the lines “mere hona aahista aahista…hota kya hai aahista aahista” will linger in your mind long after you are finished listening to the song. Hafiz Hafiz adds Kashmiri essence to it, Tum, O’ Meri Laila, Sarphiri, are other masterpieces from this film that are cherished till today. Simply put, Laila Majnu has one of the best Hindi film soundtracks.
5. Aashiqui 2
While Aashiqui 2 showed us what true love is, its songs proved that music has powers beyond imagination. The songs of Aashiqui 2 are still loved and heard and re-heard. Every song from this film relates to people in love, people who are fighting and sacrificing in love, and people who loved and lost. Be it Tum Hi Ho, Milne Hai Mujhse Aayi, Meri Aashiqui, Sun Raha Hai Na, or Bhula Dena, Aasan Nahi Yahaan, Chahun Main Ya Naa, Hum Mar Jaayenge, every single music was delivered to us like a piece of art.
Special shout out to all the people who are in love with the soundtracks of Manmarziyaan. Everyone’s personal favorite is mostly the song Daryaa (both the original by Ammy Virk and the unplugged one by Amit Trivedi). It has other soulful tracks like Sacchi Mohabbat and Chonch Ladhiyaan. These songs have a permanent spot on our playlist.
7. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Other than some heartbreaking dialogues like Dare Hue Log Aksar Alfazo Ke Peeche Chhupte Hai and Ek Tarfa Pyaar Ki Taqat Hi Kuch Aur Hoti Hai, the film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has given us some really beautiful songs for a lifetime. Arijit Singh and Pritam really worked their magic here and made us ugly cry with some of his songs and made us fall and believe in love once again with some other songs from this film. Channa Mereya, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Bulleya are still people’s favorites. Don’t forget party numbers like The Breakup Song and Cutie Pie to which we still groove.
