Eid Mubarak! Let’s hope this auspicious day will spread some good vibes in the air, and make this horrible, horrible year a better one. Let’s pray for better health, better news in general, and better economy so that unemployment is at a minimum. But most importantly, let’s give thanks to the people in our lives, and be grateful for what we have.

Sung by Sonu Nigam, Arvinder Singh and Sneha Pant, Salman Bhai released this video back in 2011, and it’s still one of our favourite festival numbers. Listen, and dance!

Totally Sufi and spiritual, this song by AR Rahman will make you feel like you’re being transported to a higher place. That’s the power of music. The singers are Javed Ali and Kailash Kher, and this song was part of the Delhi 6 album, back in 2011.

Releasing as part of the My Name in Khan album, Noor-e-Khuda stands as one of the most beautiful Bollywood songs that combine the love for God with the love for music. It features the voices of Adnan Sami, Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Ghoshal, with the music composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Allah Ke Bande

Kailash Kher’s deep, soulful voice says it all: Allah ke bande, jo bhi ho kal phir aayega. This song gives us hope because it assures us that no matter how much we’ve suffered, no matter how much we’ve struggled, tomorrow will still be a better day because we believe in God. And God will take care of it all.

Kun Faya Kun

Rockstar is a cult classic for many reasons, and the top one is the music. Another iconic Rahman number, Kun Faya Kun is beautiful in its meaning that is shared: “jab kuch bhi nahi nahi bhi nahi tha, woh hi tha woh hi tha”. Sung at a time when our protagonist was on the streets and found a home in Nizamuddin Basti of Delhi, where he slept on the road and ate what was offered him, he found that materialistic things don’t matter when one has God on their side. Only AR Rahman could evoke this level of spirituality from music.

Yoon Shabnami

Yoon Shabnami from Saawariya stands out because of its combination of classical and Western music. It’s a magical song, and the visuals of blue-white, with a red Ranbir Kapoor, are what make it mesmerising. Paarthiv Golil sang this Sufi-Qawalli song, making it a modern number that will always remain classical.

Wallah Re Wallah

It’s still Eid, and you still have to celebrate with pomp! Wallah Re Wallah from Tees Maar Khan is the perfect party, festive number. Get off the chair, put on your dancing shoes, and celebrate that it’s Eid, and hopefully the start to a great year.

Khwaja Mere Khwaja

I mean, how could I NOT add this song to the playlist, right? AR Rahman’s best song to date (decided by myself), Khwaja Mere Khwaja is what completed the movie Jodha Akbar. At the end, Akbar gets up and dances with the Sufi singers, and tbh, we all feel like doing the same. Music brings us closer to the spiritual world, and this song is proof of that.

Aaj Ki Party

Nobody can make us dance like Salman Khan can. This song evokes the fun, festive part of Eid celebrations: celebrating with family and friends. Sure, we’re under lockdown but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be happy and feel great. As the song says, “Hai celebration, music bajaao!” Put this on and dance in your room, if you have to.

Maula Wa Sallim

AR Ameen is just as talented has his gifted father, as this song has proven. From OK Kanmani/OK Jaanu, this song is sweet, soft, and has all the gorgeous innocence of faith. It’s the perfect Eid song, so listen to it with your family and pray for a better year!
